#MusicMonday: Museyroom

11th July, 2016

Check out our Q&A with Jack Donovan (vocals/guitar), and get to know Museyroom, the three-piece band whose singular blend of pop, folk, and electronic influences can be heard throughout the Keep Me Posted teaser trailer.

How did you all meet, and how did you decide to work together?

Ben (guitar/keyboards/bass) and I grew up in Brooklyn and started playing music together in middle school around 2003. We later met Matt (drums) through a mutual friend… it all happened pretty organically.

Where does the name Museyroom come from?

Museyroom comes from James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake. It's a word Joyce uses to refer to a place, but to us it’s always sounded like some kind of surreal museum where thoughts and reflections are on display.  We've always tried to create the sense of an alternate world in our music, and this word really resonated with that.

Where do you get your inspiration?

We get our inspiration from the personal relationships and broader social trends that affect our daily lives. Our recent album, Pearly Whites, was also influenced by each of us living in a different city over the period of time that it was written.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Our influences are pretty wide-ranging. To name just a few, Bob Dylan, John Coltrane, the Strokes, Debussy and J Dilla.

We featured "Ballad," in our teaser trailer - can you tell us a bit about the story behind that song?

"Ballad" is about getting trapped in a mundane depressing routine and the effects that has on one's relationships.

What do you have going on in the rest of 2016?

After releasing Pearly Whites this past March, we're now working on our second album (much of which we play live in our sets) and playing shows as much as possible. We did an East Coast/Southern tour earlier this year, but hoping to get to some new cities this Fall.

And, in keeping with the spirit of our series - have you ever lied (or distorted the truth) via social media?

We've never as a band flat out lied via social media, but I do think social media distorts reality more generally and often can be deceptive to an audience.
